NCR-BASED College of Digital Marketing (CDM) is an educational brand being promoted by Creative Neurons, Singapore, with a multi-dimensional objective to promote the subject of digital marketing which, it claims, is not being taught ‘formally’ by any institute world-wide. In an interview with Sanjeev Sinha, managing director of the college, Chander Kapoor, talks about digital marketing and the USP of their institute. Excerpts:
What is digital marketing and what, according to you, is the size of this industry in India?

As the name suggests, digital marketing can be termed or defined as an approach, strategy or a branding and marketing exercise using digital platforms. The concept and practice of digital marketing is relatively new and not very well understood by many across the globe.

The size of the digital marketing in India is estimated to be around Rs 2,000 crore and the demand is easily 100 percent more than the existing supply, in terms of manpower resources alone. We also know that digital ad spends today are already in excess of Rs 5,000 crore and thus the number is increasing exponentially. In fact, we see a more than a linear positive correlation between staffing and market growth in this sector worldwide and also in India.

What is the core objective of your institute and its USP?

At the College of Digital Marketing, our core objective is not only to teach our students and make them acquainted with the content, but also to share experiences via live interfaces. This is something that our college brings uniquely and effectively to produce empowered strategists and solution architects for the digital world.

Our programs have a unique amalgamation of global and Indian learning methodologies and have been handcrafted with an objective of offering world-class content to our students. The content of all the programs is very simple to understand and every module is updated as and when there is an industry update and is taught in our classroom(s) via a medium which is live, thus giving our students an experience and knowledge that is authenticated and as fresh it is known to the author itself.

What kind of programs does your institute offer?

Our college offers both short-term and long-term programs suitable for students, entrepreneurs, working professionals, housewives, working women, and even elderly people who intend to match the pace of the rapidly-changing technology-dependent world.

The college seeks to address the growing and fast-paced need of today’s industry by providing skilled digital marketing professionals to all sectors of business, ranging from consulting, education, healthcare, manufacturing, government, defence and IT. All our programs are designed and created by professionals who have decent exposure and international industrial experience.

    What are your near-term plans?

We plan to have at least 200 centers by the end of the first year across the length and breadth of India. We already have a few centers in Gurgaon, Shimla, Delhi and some other places.

We are keen on having particular representation in Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, UP, Kerala, Orissa, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, North-Eastern states, Gujarat and Maharashtra, and would complete this process within the next 10-12 months. We hope to reach about 25,000 students in the target states by the end of the year one.

What is a typical student looking to achieve from the courses offered by your institute?

Digital marketing is still being experimented at various stages by professionals, individuals and organizations across the globe. There is so much to learn and share in the area of digital marketing that not one particular set program/module can suffice the requirement of an individual or that of an organization. At the same time, however, not all the modules would be required by professionals coming from different background/departments.

College of Digital Marketing has designed the programs suitable for the needs of professionals and individuals looking to enhance and polish their skill-sets in the area of digital marketing. We are confident that a student who successfully completes our PG courses can get employed in various firms as an internet research executive, deputy manager – digital marketing or social media strategist, among others, and can have a starting salary of Rs 50,000 to Rs 75,000 per month.

We also have the short and medium-term programs, and after completion of a certification program such as a 1-month certification course, one can start as an internet marketer or search engine marketer and can fetch a salary of Rs 12,000 to Rs 15,000 per month.
