David Diamond believes that the more people know about DAM, the more the Digital Asset Management industry can move forward. He pursues this education strategy on many fronts: with his work at Picturepark, via #DAMTip on Twitter, through the DAM Guru Program which connects DAM experts with people who need help, and in his provocative writings which he shares with the CMSWire community.

What do you consider your most significant career accomplishment to date?

Being asked by David Geffen to fly to New York with him to see his new Broadway musical, Dreamgirls, starring Jennifer Holiday. I declined the offer because I didn’t think I’d like the play. The accomplishment was years later realizing that, despite my ability to think reasonably and analytically about anything, I am perfectly capable of making the absolutely most stupid decisions imaginable.

How do you define success?

The ability to exhale and think, “Yep, this is all good enough just as it is."

What motivates you?

Learning Opportunities

I’m a slave to ideas. They pop into my head and I cannot rest until I’ve made them happen or I’ve convinced myself that I can think of a better idea.

What is the first interaction with technology that you remember and what did you think at the time?

I was given a Norelco cassette recorder when I was somewhere near 5 years old. I recall thinking it was magical and that I had to somehow make it my life.

Fill in the blanks:

If I didn't do my current work, I would be a: full-time writer.

When I'm not working, I: think about work.

The highest compliment someone could give me is: that something I did taught them something that enabled them to teach others. And that between Brad Pitt and me — we're less than 24 hours apart in age – they’d rather be with me.
